ReplyDeleteDone much biking lately?
ReplyDeleteYes, I rode with a friend last Saturday. Will be going tomorrow, weather permitting. I have been riding my spinning bike too, weather has been really rainy here in St. Louis.
ReplyDeleteI have a request. I was wondering if you would post a survey about texting via cell phone. I would do it, but nobody reads my blog, lol. I was talking to some friends about and were debating the value of it. My thought is that it really diminishes your communication skills and in a sense shows a lack of accountability. Others disagree, they think it's a quick and easy way to keep in touch. No worries, if you don't want to do it. You probably have things you would likd to survey. If not, what do you think about it?
Hey - I read your blog! :-)
ReplyDeleteI think I understand the communication piece - help me out though: how does texting show a lack of accountability? By that are you referring to the fact that the "texter" doesn't enter into the personal phone or in-person communication exchange, but just launches a text instead?
I think people can rely on texting only for passing the most straight-forward and uncomplicated information possible. Personally, I struggle even with e-mail to really communicate - we might have discussed this before - but I can never rely on anything other than a phone call or in-person meeting to resolve contentious issues or make hard decisions (and get other people to buy-in to it...)
I think lots of mis-communication occurs because someone isn't willing to walk across the street for a meeting, pick up the phone or arrange a conference call to work things out in detail.
As for the accountability, I think there are those people, who send things via text message and email they might not otherwise. And I totally agree, texting does allow someone not to engage themselves in conversation.
ReplyDeleteI guess for me part of communicating with someone is hearing the intonation in their voice or seeing their facial expressions. I am with you, if it is important, I pick up the phone and call. You can tell alot looking at someone's body language.
I think alot of mis-communication occurs because someone isn't simply willing to listen. When is the last time you spent an evening with someone just talking? I miss that these days.
Well - I did a poll on texting. I don't know if I asked or made comments on all the right stuff. I don't know if you saw it, but I tried.
